Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana (PM-GKAY) is a part of the Atmanirbhar Bharat scheme aimed at providing free food grains to migrants and the less privileged.
The Indian government unveiled the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana (PMGKY), a relief package worth Rs. 1.7 lakh crores to provide assistance to the poor and the most severely affected segments following the lockdown. The aid package encompasses several provisions, including an insurance scheme that grants Rs. 50 lakhs coverage to health workers battling COVID-19.
The package consists of 5kg of wheat or rice and 1kg of preferred pulses each month for three months to 80 crore beneficiaries. Additionally, 20 crore Jan Dhan account holders will receive Rs. 500 every month for the next three months.

The wage provided under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme has been increased to Rs. 202 from Rs. 182, benefiting 13.62 crore families. Rs. 1,000 is to be given to 3 crore poor senior citizens, poor widows, and poor disabled as an ex-gratia transfer.
A cash transfer of Rs. 2,000 will be front-loaded to the first week of April to farmers under the existing Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, benefiting 8.7 crore farmers.
The central government has instructed the state governments to use the Building and Construction Workers Welfare Fund to offer aid to construction laborers. Furthermore, there have been no announcements about the reversal of the current Social Protection Programmes, and therefore the PMGKY seems to be an add-on to the existing provisions.
The central government offers 5kg of free food grains per month to disadvantaged families through this scheme. Moreover, families that are covered under the Public Distribution System (PDS) and benefit from the subsidized (Rs 2-3 per kg) ration provided by the National Food Security Act (NFSA) also receive assistance under the PMGKAY scheme.
